After completing her librarianship studies, Maaike van Asch travelled for 10 years in Israel, Spain, Italy and Greece, working mainly as a waitress but also in many other jobs. Like Heinrich Schliemann, she developed a taste for languages and foreign countries. She loves Spain in particular, and her favourite hobbies include flamenco dancing and walking the ancient pilgrim route known as the Camino de Santiago.
